Sanddollar--Our 1973 Barth 25L Class A Motorhome
The Story So Far...
A while back we got it into our heads that we were missing out on a lot of living by staying in one place and living the conventional "stick-house" life. We'd been reading about folks called "Snowbirds" and "Workcampers", and realized that our lifestyle was perfect for joining this crowd...an idea was born!!
We both were operating heavy equipment in the mid-west, but had no affinity for working in the cold or snowy weather. We tried to limit our working season to the 6-8 months of spring through fall. As a result, we were spending the remainder of the year cooped up in our house watching it rain and snow...not good
We decided to take the plunge and buy a motorhome. Sanddollar, our Barth, is 32 years old. However, we are only her third owners! The original owner had her for 10 years and the second for 18! I think he really hated selling her, but he had promised "Mama" a new motorhome with slide-outs when they retired. And so, a plan was hatched.....
The previous owner also owned an RV repair shop. He did a first rate job of taking care of the truck part of Sanddollar. However, the interior needed some serious updating. This coach really had that "70's" feel; shag carpet, naugahyde upholstery, and dark wood. At first, we'd talk about changing this or that...small things really. Eventually I realized it would have been easier to have just gutted the whole thing from the git!
On the following pages you will find photos of Sanddollar as she was when we first got her and how she's looking these days with her spiffy new makeover.
After we were finished with the re-do, we started taking trips. The trouble came when the trip was over and it was time to come "home". We didn't want to! We stayed gone longer and longer, until we finally decided to sell everything and live fulltime in our coach. We've never looked back, as they say. We absolutely love this lifestyle! This year (05) we've decided to take it to the next level. We both left our careers as operators and have decided to live on the road by workamping and what-have-you. I have a tagline on the bottom of my emails that says...."Life is short - get out there and live it!"...and we are going to do just that! So come hell or high water...we'll be out there.
